A small party or club night at the local pub can easily be served by any modest and compact DMX controller - simply hook up a couple of fixtures and maybe a lighting effect, and you're done. But, when it comes to larger spaces, even the average theatre, a much bigger machine is demanded. And we don't just mean bigger in terms of DMX channels, but bigger in terms of control. The 1024-channel Zero 88 FLX S24 console is a prime example of bigger, better control, with a little luxurious touch. This console was definitely built for fiercely technical theatre lighting work, and is less of a lighting controller but more of a seasoned lighting-tech's right hand.

Since it's been built with professionals in mind, you would expect that it takes a little time to master the controls of this extensive console, but even beginner light-jockeys are actually offered a smoother-than-average ride by the clear interface. In short, everything does exactly what you'd expect it to do, so you can easily define fixture groups and tweak functions and effects via a set of tactile and multifunctional faders. And, for those with experience with digital-drawing, the stunning built-in display can be used to select lighting colours on the basis of additive colour, subtractive colour and HSV. This is a more-than-welcome addition if you prefer the more visual method of scrolling through the a rainbow of colours, or tweaking a specific colour mix by pushing it into the lighter or darker spectrum. Moving heads can even be efficiently controlled in a more logical, human way via this highly intuitive display, and since this is just one feature, you're already looking at a console that's a genuine pleasure to work with.
